The Great Connect - Higher Self Guidance In Practice

So you probably already know and/or can sense that you have a divine spark- a higher aspect, an ineffable something of great beauty and depth, something beyond the here and now- it's fairly obvious if you're not in the process of rationalizing anything and just look. In Huna- we call this the higher self.

The higher self is here to guide you- to show you the way, to be your torch while you are living in a world of infinite choices. It's always here and always unconditionally loving- and yet, sometimes, you can feel like there's nothing divine about you whatsoever. What gives?

--

You see, in the Huna perspective- you don't just have a high self, you have a low one, too.

The high one inspires you- and the low one holds your beliefs. It's a big chunk of memory.

So here's the secret to having the higher self in your life, right there- if you want a good high self connection, you need to persuade your low self to forge it.

It's your low self- your bodymind, your memory, your belief-holder- that determines what you experience in life. Whatever you believe- that's what you get. Whatever you get- you feel it first. And if those beliefs are out of what with your high self- it feels like you're cut off.

You're never really cut off- you are a divine being that is a chunk of infinite love and conciousness. Not metaphorically- physically. That is your makeup.

But- part of this reality is free choice. So while you can't be away or againt your high self- you can most certainly generate the experience of not being connected.

That either happens when you consciously deny your higher self- or, even worse, whenever you find fault with something.

Yup.

Pissed at your boss? Well that sucks, because that criticism is disconnecting you from your higher self- the very power that could get you somewhere else.

Mad about the general state of the world? Bummer, because that very anger is making you part of the sort of world you don't want.

And even yet worse- every time you chose to held a grudge about anything- or felt ashamed and just kind of 'sucked it up'- you locked it in. You turned off the feeling- physically, this means creating a tense area in the body- and the criticism stayed there even if you're no longer consciously aware of it. It's hiding in plain sight.

And that's why you can't manifest certain things, or take certain steps that would improve your life- or spontaneously know what to do so that all sorts of absolutely crazy good peachy things happen. You let fault-finding get in the way.

Now it gets tricky. If you're like most people, trying to be more positive or not finding faults will actually get you to repress even more. It's just how most of us learned how to deal with things. So in order to let all that stuff go, the first thing to do is ironically not to stop feeling bad, but to start feeling at all. And usually this will mean allowing yourself to feel absolutly horrible stuff. And I don't mean seeking out bad experiences- although some people like horror movies to trigger these feelings- I just mean not distracting yourself with whatever you normally use to distract yourself. Meditation is one way- a formal way- of removing distraction, but just sitting there and not doing anything in particular is good enough. Not sitting and thinking or concluding or anything- just being there and not taking whatever thoughts you have particularly seriously. Your brain produces thoughts, that's normal- they don't have to mean anything in particular. You can just let them come and go a little bit.

Doing that will usually make you feel very uncomfortable- for the simple reason that it raises up your feelings, because you're not in any kind of serious critical thought- and that makes it impossible to continue to repress things. It comes up.

So if you're letting feelings come up, that's a good thing. It can be a good idea to take it slow or take a break, especially if you need to be somewhere or do something, but it's really good to just make some time for it- the effort usually pays for itself quickly by needing less of some kind of distraction you usually feel is essential. So you let those feelings come up and just let them cook a little. You don't have to take them at face value. Just because you have something mean in your head for a moment, that doesn't make it true. It's just a thought coming up. Some are true, some aren't.

And here comes the great guidance your higher self can give you even if it feels far away. If a thought feels bad- then it's out of whack with your higher self. And since your higher self is you, it means it's your source of truth. So by definition- if a thought feels bad, it can't be true. In literal terms- you are worthy, you are loved, you can have the things you feel you need, you can enjoy life, things can change, good things will happen, those things bothering you need not persist, you can be a source of joy and goodness in the world. Why? Because it feels good- and you found an esoteric philosophy you may feel very inclined to try at this point that says that this good feeling itself is the sign that you need that tells you the truth of something.

Tiny catch here- it can feel great to be mean and it's a great idea to not repress that either, but it's usually a good idea to wait for meanness to run its course a little bit without doing much about it.

So after your uncovering feelings, and sitting with them and not doing much- that's true braveness. That's exactly the same thing as the common spiritual advice to not judge. You took the first step by not criticizing yourself for feeling bad and just feeling it- and paradoxically, that's positive. Letting yourself feel bad when you feel bad is the oppositie of toxic positivity- and it's a good thing. It's something to feel proud of.

Luckily, you don't need to feel bad particularly long. There's a shortcut to making it stop. Your lower self holding a belief that's out of whack with your higher self- that's what causes the bad feeling, and that's what stops the high self communication. And when you're not repressing it and not explaining it away, you have access to it. You can ask it to tell you what it is- and if you just keep asking an answer will pop into your mind.

What would I have to believe to feel this?

Usually something will come up that is the opposite of the nice general things that are really true about you that I listed above.

Well- you can now just deny it. No, dear lower self, I am not in fact weak and incapable, I actually am tremendously competent and confident. Just make up the opposite and state it with as much conviction as you can muster. Problem solved.

Each time you do this you get closer to your higher self. Your body is less tense, you were genuinely able to transform negative beliefs hanging around without the trap of repressing them more- those are gone. And lo and behold- you keep this up as a practice for a while you're going to start feeling inspired. You will have fun ideas. You will be creative. By all means- follow those. It's your higher self calling you to a wonderful life.
